Fifth Crow is a successful small organic farm in beautiful Pescadero, California. Fifth Crow produces high quality organic vegetables, fruits, flowers, heirloom dry beans, and pastured eggs. We sell to high-end grocery stores and restaurants; we sell at six Bay Area Farmer's markets, and have a 200+ member CSA.
The Flower Production assistant job offers the opportunity to learn all aspects of a successful organic cut flower operation. This position, under the supervision of the Flower Production Manager, will entail helping with all aspects of our flower production program from sowing, weeding, transplanting, and harvesting, to arranging flowers. It also includes working one Farmers' Market a week.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, a team player, a quick learner, has good work ethic, has a passion for flowers and enthusiasm to learn.
Qualifications: previous flower and farming experience required, detail-oriented, artistically inclined, good communication skills, customer service skills/farmers' market experience preferred, basic Spanish a plus.
This is a seasonal, full time staff position. The average workweek is 40-50 hours, with a Wednesday to Sunday schedule. Work will go from mid March to the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Wage starts at $10/hour with 6-month reviews of performance for raises, and the possible opportunity for long-term employment and advancement. Housing is available but not guaranteed. This is a great opportunity for someone with previous farm experience who is interested in learning more about the inner workings of a successful and highly diversified, mid-sized organic farm. The Harvest Coordinator works closely with the Farm owners, Crew Leader, and CSA Coordinator, to plan and oversee the harvests for 5 farmers’ markets, restaurant sales, and our 200 member CSA. This position is a year-round, full time staff position (40-50 hrs/week) with advancement opportunities. Pay commensurate with experience ($12/hr-$14/hr which is about $24,000-$30,000/year with one month non-paid vacation mid-winter.)
This position requires strong people skills, a capacity to communicate with enthusiasm about farm products, and significant experience with the harvest and post-harvest handling of a diversity of vegetables/herbs/fruits. The ideal candidate will have two or more years experience working on a mixed vegetable farm and experience in sales. This position is ideal for someone who has leadership skills, yet enjoys working on a team. The Harvest Coordinator is responsible for modeling proper and efficient harvest techniques, noticing problems as they arise and correcting them, and helping to maintain rigorous quality standards. The ideal candidate is detail oriented and organized, conversationally fluent in Spanish, good at time management, and willing to work in a dynamic and fast paced working environment.
Responsibilities include:
-maintaining and updating our wholesale availability list on a bi-weekly basis.
-establishing and maintaining a positive working relationships with restaurant and wholesale clients
-working closely with farm owner to coordinate harvest for 6 weekly farmers markets, restaurant orders, and collaborating with the CSA coordinator to coordinate the harvest for our 250 member CSA
-communicating harvest goals to the crew (in English and Spanish)
-managing and overseeing the post-harvest handling of crops while maintaining rigorous quality standards
-harvest and sales record keeping
-aiding in harvest, prep, and packing of produce

Farm co-owner Mike Irving has been driving tractors for 12+ years and has developed the field systems starting with 7 acres and a shoestring budget to what they are today. Schedule:

- Performing various stages of tractor work [spading, discing, ripping, bed making, cultivating, seeding, fertilizing, spraying, mowing, grading, and other related tasks]
- Maintaining detailed records of inputs, plantings and other field activities
- Working closely with the Irrigation Manager to coordinate field moisture and tractor
work

FARM DESCRIPTION: At Live Oak Farm we are starting our second year farming a 30 acre property and are looking to hire one Assistant Manager and one Crew Member. We grow a wide variety of row crops including mixed vegetables, medicinal herbs, and flowers. We are located on the west side of Petaluma and are developing a sustainable community (agrihood) in a semi-rural area, conveniently located just a couple of miles from downtown Petaluma. In this 2016 season we will be increasing our row crop production from 4 to 6 acres, as well as establishing 2.5 acres of berries and 3.5 acres of fruit trees (persimmons, pomegranates, apples and pluots). This is the perfect opportunity for a hardworking individual that is passionate about sustainable agriculture to participate in the early development of an organic farm. At Live Oak we strive to follow permaculture principals for water management, biodiversity, and soil health while integrating efficient, productivity-minded agricultural techniques. ASSISTANT MANAGER Qualifications:

We are family owned certified organic indoor hydroponic farm growing microgreens and herbs, delivered directly to major grocery stores all around the Bay Area (Whole Foods and more). This is an ideal internship for anyone studying horticulture, sustainable farming, environmental science or related areas. In the midst of a drought hydroponic farming is getting a lot of attention for its incredibly minimal use of water and land. Come join us for this exciting movement in farming!
We offer 2-month & 4-month unpaid internships that will earn you a certificate of completion stating the areas of this field you have successfully learned. All interns start with harvest days, which occur Mondays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Sundays every week. As you move through the program we will teach you: cutting/harvesting, planting, crop maintenance, hydroponic systems maintenance, and much, much more.
We take a limited amount of interns at any given time, so that we can give you the training needed. In order to secure your spot, you must schedule an initial time to come in for a 4-hour shift on one of the harvest days (listed above) so we can see if you’re a good fit here and that we offer what you are wanting. Frog Hollow Farm is seeking a creative, hardworking, and outgoing full-time farmer to work in our vegetable operations on the farm. Frog Hollow is a certified organic stone-fruit farm situated an hour from San Francisco that is expanding into vegetable production. The vegetables go to our established markets, including our CSA, cafe, and commercial kitchen. We are also interested in beginning an egg production program.
Position details:
This person is responsible for working on all aspects of production, from seed starting to harvest, weeding, greenhouse work, and keeping accurate records. This person will work under our current farm manager. This position requires a high degree of flexibility, as things are always changing on the farm, and this is a new project. Daily tasks can vary greatly from day to day and month to month. Position includes a 6 month trial period, with potential to become year round.
This is a great position for young or beginning farmers who want to learn from an established farm and work within an existing business.
Duties include:
- Cultivating a 2-acre field for vegetable production (knowledge of tomato production a bonus)
- Caring for a 1/4 acre culinary garden
- Occasionally working at farmers markets
- Assisting in caring for our flock of 20 chickens and expanding
- Assisting tours and school groups

Blueberry Farm Harvest Manager Position

We are looking for an energetic, independent individual with excellent communication skills to act as Harvest Manager on our certified organic blueberry farm during the 2016 harvest season (May-August). This is a seasonal full time position, with the potential for further full time work. We are one of the longest-operating certified organic blueberry farms in California and have an established customer base and market. Our farm is located in the foothills east of Chico, in Northern California.

We require a commitment of 7-8 weeks minimum for the duration of the harvest season, and have work available prior to harvest start, as well as post-harvest. This position involves managing the harvest crew, oversight of packing crew, quality control and logistics, driving a 2 ton truck and loading and offloading pallets. Typical work days are 5:30 am to late afternoon, 5-6 days a week for the harvest; weather conditions range from cool mornings to hot afternoons – ability to work outdoors in these conditions is a must. Farm experience and Spanish language skills are helpful. A valid driver’s license is required; no children or pets. Housing may be available. The farm is remotely located, and limited transportation to town is provided.
