Financial Assistance for Conservation Buffers on Organic Farms

$
0
0

Financial assistance is now available to assist with the cost of establishing new conservation buffers and other practices on and near farms that produce organic crops. The funds come from the USDA Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), a federally funded voluntary program that contracts with agricultural producers so that environmentally sensitive land is not farmed or ranched, but instead used for conservation benefits.

CRP participants establish long-term, resource-conserving plant species, such as approved grasses or trees (known as “covers”) to control soil erosion, improve water quality and develop wildlife habitat. In return, FSA provides participants with rental payments and cost-share assistance. Contract duration is between 10 and 15 years. For conservation buffers, funds are available for establishing shrubs and trees, or supporting pollinating species, and can be planted in blocks or strips. Interested organic producers can offer eligible land for enrollment in this initiative at any time.

ORGANIC ROW CROP FARM | 1000-ACRES

SACRAMENTO VALLEY Extraordinary water resources along the Sacramento River.
Nearly 1000-acres (405 hectares) of dark, rich, alluvial soils with a history of produce, tomatoes, safflower, rice; beans, corn, squash, melons, wheat, and cover crops. Berry farms and vegetable farms are found throughout Yolo County; as well as tree nuts, vineyards and citrus.
This farm enjoys mild winters with some frosts. Cool season crops are grown locally from mid-November to mid-May. Warm season crops are grown from mid-May to mid-November. This is an ideal organic farm with enough land to produce large-scale organic crops year round; and enough surplus land to grow cover crops and prepare beds for future rotations.
The field-station shops, barn, yard & housing are gated, private & secure. The farm enjoys spectacular landscape views along a year-round stream. Grower/shippers are 90-minutes from the San Francisco Bay Area and Salinas is 3.5 hours. Sacramento Intl. Airport cargo terminal is 35-minutes away.
These dark fertile soils are composed of aggregated, basin floor, mixed-clayey-alluvium and 5% soil organic matter. The slightly acidic 6.5 pH is ideal for many crops. These soils compare similarly with the dark alluvial soils along California's coast, but without the sea water intrusion and expanding populations. These soils are built upon decades of employing cover crops, crop residues and seasonal wetlands. These rotations support organic crop health and plant vigor with minimal inputs. The land's been managed to sustain luxuriant tilth, biodiversity and soil microbial activity -- vital to organic farming. Labs confirm healthy levels of essential minerals and micronutrients.
Farm equipment package includes 6-tractors, late-model combine and all the implements needed, for rent, or with purchase. The farm office is conveniently located 10-minutes off site in Knights Landing near schools, shopping and employment centers.
PRICE: Current Market Value for organic row crop land. Compare current listings and recent sales comparables for ORGANIC row crop land in California. Buyers to perform their due diligence prior to submitting a well-supported Purchase Offer Agreement. Leases are cash-rent only. Tours, terms & details available to genuine qualified tenants, buyers or their brokers.
Turn-key working organic operation. Knowledgeable resident management and local operators available.
