Overview: As the Compliance Team Leader for the GPP Global Perishables Purchasing team, you will work in conjunction with the Perishables Facilities Leadership Team, Global Product Coordinators, Global Perishable Purchasing Teams and the Compliance Team to support and administer the standards/ratings program for the Global Perishables Purchasing Teams. The successful candidate is a hands-on leader with excellent teaching and communication skills who is dedicated to the principles and core values of Whole Foods Market.  This position will be working out of the WFM global office in Austin.

Will Do:

  1. Coordinate closely with product coordinator teams and perishable facility leadership to maintain and consistently execute perishable vendor compliance requirements.
  2. Coordinate with Product Coordinator Teams, Perishable Facility Leadership, and other Global Teams (GFSS, Legal) to contribute to ongoing development of industry leading vendor requirements, tracking, and reporting.
  3. Build and lead global perishable compliance team to provide world class service and support to perishable purchasing teams and vendors.
  4. Mentor and support global perishable compliance team members to achieve their full potential and advance team objectives.
  5. Identify and pursue opportunities for efficiencies and sharing of best practices for compliance across perishable teams.
  6. Manage Global Perishable Purchasing Facility licenses and certifications (e.g. PACA, Organic, and Fair Trade).
  7. Create and manage consistent compliance tracking and reporting tools for all product teams.
  8. Interview, select, train, develop, and counsel Team Members in a manner which builds and sustains a high performing team, and minimizes turnover.  Make hiring and termination decisions with guidance of Perishable Facility Leadership.
  9. Work closely with Perishable Facility Leadership to ensure proper management of team including budgeting and team member support / development.
  10. Participate actively as member of WFM Perishable Purchasing Facility Team Leader Group.
  11. Acknowledge and praise outstanding performance

  • Strong knowledge of the standards/ratings systems at Whole Foods Market
  • Exceptional communication (both oral and written), scheduling, and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

If you are interested in farming, here is a great opportunity for you to get a fantastic education. We are certified organic and sell to national markets wholesale and retail. David Vose the “farmer in charge” has farmed up to 1000 acres but has decided to take a very local, sustainable, environmental and healthy approach with 35 acres organic farm located in Litchfield Park, Arizona. Our intern will work hands on with David every day to understand agronomy, soil fertility, all aspects of tillage, irrigation and harvesting, as well as farmers markets and CSA program to manage. There is a great opportunity to learn varied technology on a lot of different farm equipment and advanced tractors. The farm is also expanding by building greenhouses, solar projects, composting, food production and our very own farm test kitchen! A college degree is definitely not required but we are hoping for someone who is detail oriented and ready to take on a large variety of projects. Bilingual in Spanish/English is important if they wish to interact with the field hands. There are year round opportunities though the bulk of farming is done September through July. Check out our website and facebook page for some great information about the farm. Located in a fantastic and beautiful area of Arizona there is a lot to explore. Hiking in the White Mountains, two large cities only 30-45 mins away (Scottsdale and Phoenix) as well as a local college ASU. Currently we do not have accommodations for an intern but will be happy to assist in locating as well as paying a housing stipend.

JOB SUMMARY:  Reports to the  Organic Program Manager and performs  a wide range of technical and administrative duties to ensure Driscoll’s organic system plan is updated and maintained as required by the USDA National Organic Program.  The specialist will also provide administrative support, and ensure timely communication of NOP program changes to growers in order to maintain compliance.  The specialist will be required to work on a wide range of projects that will not only meet current needs but allow for future growth of this role. The individual will represent Driscoll’s in the field to all organic berry producers in the US, Mexico and Chile.  Travel required up to 10% - 15% of the work time.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required. Three to five years of experience in the agricultural industry with regulatory experience may be considered as a substitute for the educational requirement (e.g. Food Safety or Organic Certification). Bilingual, bi-literate communication skills required in English and Spanish. Knowledge of organic production practices, USDA National Organic Program or other Federal Regulatory compliance experience required. Must be able to follow detailed directions both verbal and written.  Must have the ability to organize and manage diverse information in many forms. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and written.  Excellent interpersonal skills required.  Must be able to travel to all districts in the U.S. and Mexico. Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite required. Valid California Driver’s License, eligibility for vehicle insurance and US Passport required. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.  

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  1. Manage handler and grower electronic organic system plans.  Act as a grower liaison to assist in the management and development of organic system plans.
  2. Conduct annual internal pre-inspections for organic growers and DSA handling facilities. Participate in third-party organic inspections and provide follow-up assistance to ensure timely certification. Identify areas of improvement and recommend solutions.
  1. Collaborate with Driscoll’s DOTA personnel, growers and certifiers to influence behaviors that advance the priorities of the department.
  1. Interpret and communicate National Organic Program guidelines. Monitor changes and communicate to growers and Driscoll’s personnel.
  1. Collaborate with districts and National Supply team to ensure timely organic ranch activation.  
  1. Research and verify that all organic grower acreage is certified prior to harvest.
  1. Manage organic certificates and profiles for handlers and growers.
  1. Manage organic export program, track and report certificate usage and provide updates on regulatory changes.
  1. Organize National Organic Grower Advisory Panel biannual meeting.
  1. Generate and maintain annual and historical organic ranch list including all producing acres by district and commodity.
  1. Develop an active Organic Department presence on the Berrynet.
  1. Develop and enhance Organic Department standard operating procedures.
  1. Serve as a back-up to the Organic Team on various projects and/or duties.
  1. Complete special projects and/or duties as assigned by the Organic Supply Manager.
