Here at Blue Sky Organic Farms we are excited to look for a farm apprentice to work with us, learn from our 19 years experience, and help with all the varied aspects of a very busy organic farm. If you are interested in farming, here is a great opportunity for you to get a fantastic education. We are certified organic and sell to national markets wholesale and retail. David Vose the “farmer in charge” has farmed up to 1000 acres but has decided to take a very local, sustainable, environmental and healthy approach with 35 acres organic farm located in Litchfield Park, Arizona. Our intern will work hands on with David every day to understand agronomy, soil fertility, all aspects of tillage, irrigation and harvesting, as well as farmers markets and CSA program to manage. There is a great opportunity to learn varied technology on a lot of different farm equipment and advanced tractors. The farm is also expanding by building greenhouses, solar projects, composting, food production and our very own farm test kitchen! A college degree is definitely not required but we are hoping for someone who is detail oriented and ready to take on a large variety of projects. Bilingual in Spanish/English is important if they wish to interact with the field hands. There are year round opportunities though the bulk of farming is done September through July. Check out our website and facebook page for some great information about the farm. Located in a fantastic and beautiful area of Arizona there is a lot to explore. Hiking in the White Mountains, two large cities only 30-45 mins away (Scottsdale and Phoenix) as well as a local college ASU. Currently we do not have accommodations for an intern but will be happy to assist in locating as well as paying a housing stipend.
