POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Manually plant, cultivate, and harvest crops for the Farm Stand and Organic Kitchen. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops and landscaping; cleaning, packaging, and loading products. May repair fences and buildings, participate in irrigation activities and miscellaneous maintenance of the Farm Stand and Organic Kitchen. Also, set-up for and help with special events and tours.
- Set up and operate irrigation equipment.
- Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, and harvest crops.
- Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment.
- Harvest crops by hand.
- Inform farm managers of crop progress.
- Record information about crops, such as fertilizer use, yields, or costs for CCOF records.
- Dig and plant seeds, or transplant seedlings by hand.
- Weed, thin, or prune crops and landscaping.
- Repair buildings, fences, and other structures.
- Participate in the inspection, sorting, packaging, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops.
- Unload products off of Local Route truck
- Perform miscellaneous maintenance and upkeep of Farm Stand
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Experience : 3+ years field work experience, organic experience a plus
Other Requirements:
- Ability to operate a tractor and forklift
- Knowledge of irrigation practices
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Outdoor farming/agricultural environment subject to weather extremes and exposure to heavy equipment. Work depends on the season, such as the times when crops are planted or harvested. Field workers may work extended hours and/or days per week during planting and harvesting.
