Farmscape, installers and managers of raised bed vegetable gardens throughout Los Angeles, is seeking a full time urban farmer!
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Make weekly visits to yards of Farmscape members at regularly scheduled times
- Manage all aspects of annual vegetable cultivation from planning and planting plots, fertilization and pest control, to leaving a harvest on each member’s doorstep
- Keep detailed records during weekly visits
- Maintain good relationships with members, both in-person and via phone/email
- Adhere to Farmscape best practices in managing farms
- Communicate promptly with supervisor regarding supply needs and unexpected garden issues
- Communicate with sales staff regarding newly installed farms and add them to the weekly route in a timely manner
- Assist with covering routes when other farmers are on vacation
- Assist with office and garden projects as required
- Offer garden consultation hours as scheduled
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required
- Represent Farmscape in a friendly and professional manner
Qualifications:
- Experience with annual vegetable cultivation required
- Related education in horticulture, crop science, etc. a plus
- Experience working with classrooms, youth groups, children is a plus
- Ability to learn and adapt to Farmscape best practices
- Friendly and clear communicator
- Organizational skills and attention to detail a must
- Ability to work independently
- Valid driver’s license and a working vehicle
Compensation:
Commensurate with experience. Benefits package available to full-time farmers.
