Farm Description
At Live Oak Farm we are looking to hire full time Farm Crew Members (2 positions available). We grow a wide variety of Fruits and row crops including mixed vegetables, medicinal and culinary herbs. We are located on the west side of Petaluma conveniently located just a couple of miles from downtown.
This is the perfect opportunity for two hardworking individuals that are passionate about organic agriculture to participate in the early development of an organic farm that will be tightly knit to the community surrounding it. At Live Oak we strive to follow permaculture principals for water management, biodiversity, and soil health while integrating efficient, productivity-minded agricultural techniques.
The Crew Member will report directly to the Farm Manager.
CREW MEMBER
Qualifications:
• At least 1 year of organic farming experience
• Can work unsupervised efficiently
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to work 40-50 hour weeks depending on the season
• Ability to perform physically demanding activities such as kneeling, lifting, shoveling, pruning, etc. for long hours
• Able to multitask
• A team player
• Positive
• Good at record keeping (likes to be organized) is a plus.
• Familiarity and comfort with Microsoft Works (especially Word and Excel) is a plus.
• Experience driving a tractor a plus
• Experience with orchard work a plus
• English-Spanish bilingual a plus
•Knowledge on irrigation systems is a plus.
Duties:
• Nursery: Filling flats or containers, seeding, watering, up-potting, moving plants, managing climate in the nurseries, opening and closing hoop houses.
• Field: Transplanting, weeding, monitoring, managing floating row covers or other season extenders or fiscal barriers for pests, gopher trapping, application of organic pest control, harvesting, processing and delivery.
• Orchard: Pruning, mulching, fertilizing, controlling pests, monitoring, harvesting, processing, processing and delivering.
• Irrigation: Installing irrigation systems, laying irrigation pipes for overhead, laying and picking up drip hose, using electric timers and monitoring humidity in field.
• Occasional work at a farmers market stand
• Additional work as it’s required, directly related to farming or otherwise
Compensation:
Commensurate upon experience, we will consider inexperienced workers that are looking to learn and grow with us as well as experienced growers that can help us grow.
Potential housing available onsite.
Work starts when the fields drain and is full time with one to two months of vacation yearly.
