Blue Egg Farm LLC is a small family-owned farm in beautiful Orinda, California. Blue Egg Farm is certified as an Organic Grower and Livestock Producer by California Certified Organic Farmers. Blue Egg grows and delivers organic vegetables, herbs, flowers, fruit, and blue organic soy-free eggs to our neighbors in Orinda, and we arrange meetups for groups of our customers throughout the East Bay. We also bring our pop-up farm stand to retail stores and commercial offices. In addition, Blue Egg grows many varieties of organic vegetable, herb, edible flower, flower, and fruit seedlings that are carried by Whole Foods Market, and we deliver and ship our starts.
Our part – time farm hand comes to work with a positive attitude, committed to helping us reach our goal of offering the highest quality organic produce and seedlings in the San Francisco Bay region.
Our Expectations:
Have a passion for organic farming and a friendly disposition.
Start work immediately and work at least 20 hours per week including eight hours on one weekend day for one year.
Arrive on time on scheduled days.
Work unsupervised and do so safely and efficiently.
Collaborate well with our farmer, senior farm hand, and other team members.
Respect our neighbors, vendors, and team members with quiet work and polite language.
Have strong work ethic, and take pride in work.
Be self–motivated and find creative solutions to problems.
Persevere through difficult tasks.
Be flexible. Every day brings something new and challenging. Regularly review farm documentation provided by the farmer, and meet farm standards outlined in these documents, as well as those communicated verbally.
Be able to lift 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding activities such as kneeling, lifting, shoveling, pruning, and standing for long hours.
Do not smoke, or abuse alcohol or drugs.
Possess cell phone for needed texting and calling among team.
Possess car, valid California Driver’s license, clean driving record, and proof of insurance if you agree to make deliveries.
Some Farm Hand Duties:
Feed and water the hens, and clean and secure their coops, and fencing.
Prepare planting mix and sow seeds in trays, pots and beds.
Transplant seedlings into pots and beds.
Monitor and maintain vegetable, herb and fruit seedlings, and all plants in beds and large pots, to include measuring for moisture, watering, applying organic inputs and foliars to enhance soil and discourage pests, weeding, securing and replacing covers, and setting traps for pests.
Install and maintain drip irrigation system.
Clean the greenhouse, carport, garage, work areas, and tools.
Mow grass, and remove weeds.
Assist with construction projects.
Harvest, clean, bunch and package produce for delivery.
Prune seedlings and label and package them for delivery and shipping.
Inform the team about low supplies of hen feed, organic inputs, materials and tools, and the need to repair materials or sharpen tools.
Deliver produce and seedlings, and purchase materials as needed.
Compensation will be $15.00-$20.00 per hour depending on experience.
