Assistant General Manager
Windrift Farm is seeking an Assistant General Manager for the 2020 season, beginning April 1st ending Nov 20, 2020. This position could be extended pending a post season review. Windrift Farm:
We are a certified organic, heirloom tomato farm located outside Petaluma, CA. It is our mission to grow the most delicious and highest quality tomatoes. We connect organic farming practices, fundamental importance of live soil health, with our tomato expertise. Windrift Farm grows exclusively for retail ready, direct, wholesale distribution. Our tomatoes can be found throughout Northern California in grocery stores, restaurants, and catered events. We are a quickly growing farm/company that is focused on quality, consistency, and integrity.
Job Requirements:
The assistant manager is responsible for overseeing and being hands on in all aspects of farm management. You must have a clean driving record, a vehicle to get to the job site, and be able to drive a delivery vehicle, tractor and farm truck.
Including:
- Overseeing and working with day laborers and tomato harvesters
- Land and fence management
- Record keeping
- Harvest management
- Delivery management
- Crop planting with the Farm Manager
- Hoop house management
- Operating a weed wacker, mower, rototiller
- Pest management
- Compost management
- Preparing products for delivery: Labeling, boxing, wrapping pallets
- Operate pallet jack
- Irrigation maintenance
The Assistant Manager will work collaboratively with the Farm Manager. They will be expected to lead workers, overseeing and making sure all work is getting done, clearly teaching beginners how work must be done in a kind manner. This person should be friendly, willing to answer questions, hardworking, self-directed, and honest. We are a quickly growing farm/company, that would like to find the right person to become part of our permanent team.
Qualifications:
Experience working on a vegetable farm, is good with plants, has past managerial experience, and works well with others. Ability to speak Spanish would be a plus. This person must have a clean driving record and the ability to safely operate small farm tractors, farm trucks and delivery vehicles. Must be physically able to lift 50+ lbs. repeatedly, kneel, engage in repetitive tasks, and be outside in all kinds of weather conditions.
Compensation:
The Assistant Manager will receive a seasonal salary of $22,500, plus a cash bonus of $1,500 upon final review and completion of the season. The season will begin April 1st, and end November 20th, 2020, with hours varying between 20 hrs/week to 40+ hrs/week depending on assigned workload.
