Veritable Vegetable is seeking a full time Purchaser. We provide full service distribution of certified organic fresh fruits and vegetables to retailers, restaurants, and wholesalers. Veritable Vegetable is a woman owned business, founded on principles of cooperation, participatory management, and ethical business practices. Located in San Francisco, California, we have been creating community alliances and promoting sustainable agriculture since 1974. We are the oldest organic produce distributor in the nation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate, qualify and develop business relationships internally and externally with farmers and vendors
- Maintain, grow and strengthen relationships with organic farmers and within the industry and food systems community
- Represent our company as the grower’s distributor of choice
- Communicate our company values to staff, our community and all outside contacts
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of experience in procurement and planning process within Food and Beverage Industry
- Knowledge of logistics and ability to work closely with our Transportation Department
- Knowledge of organic produce industry regulations and publications
- Outstanding relationship building skills; ability to manage strong vendor relationships
- Must possess strong communication and presentation skills
- Proficient in MS Office suite software applications
- Self-motivated, highly organized team player
- Strong analytical skills and creative problem solving capabilities
- An entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Project management
- Strong writing skills; experience with marketing communications (i.e., writing blogs)
- Strong skills utilizing databases
- Experience training growers (e.g. crop planning, production planning)
- Knowledge and/or experience in food safety compliance
