This is a unique opportunity to gain further experience in the function and utilization of various tractors and implements on a mid-size farm by working alongside an experienced farmer. Farm co-owner Mike Irving has been driving tractors for 12+ years and has developed the field systems starting with 7 acres and a shoestring budget to what they are today. The Assistant Field Production Assistant works closely with, and under the supervision of, the farm owner and the Field Production Manager. This is a full-time (40-50 hours/week) position, Sunday-Thursday. Pay commensurate with experience ($10-$13/hr). This is a seasonal position, starting April 1, 2016 and ending November 23, 2016. However, there are possible opportunities for long-term employment and advancement for the ideal candidate.
Schedule:
On farm: Monday - Thursday (32-40 hours)
Farmers Market: Sunday (10-11 hours)
Responsibilities Include:
- Performing various stages of tractor work [spading, discing, ripping, bed making, cultivating, seeding, fertilizing, spraying, mowing, grading, and other related tasks]
- Maintaining detailed records of inputs, plantings and other field activities
- Working closely with the Irrigation Manager to coordinate field moisture and tractor
work
- Participation in building and other projects as needed
- Assist at a Farmers’ Market every Sunday
- Occasional assistance with harvest
- Errand runs once or twice a month
Qualifications
- at least one year's experience with tractor work on a small or mid-size farm [Please do not apply if you have zero tractor experience!]
- basic knowledge of proper usage and care of mechanical equipment
- experience in customer service and display, preferably at Farmers’ Markets
- Speak and understand basic Spanish
- good communication skills
- clean driving record
