FARM DESCRIPTION: At Live Oak Farm we are starting our second year farming a 30 acre property and are looking to hire one Assistant Manager and one Crew Member. We grow a wide variety of row crops including mixed vegetables, medicinal herbs, and flowers. We are located on the west side of Petaluma and are developing a sustainable community (agrihood) in a semi-rural area, conveniently located just a couple of miles from downtown Petaluma. In this 2016 season we will be increasing our row crop production from 4 to 6 acres, as well as establishing 2.5 acres of berries and 3.5 acres of fruit trees (persimmons, pomegranates, apples and pluots). This is the perfect opportunity for a hardworking individual that is passionate about sustainable agriculture to participate in the early development of an organic farm. At Live Oak we strive to follow permaculture principals for water management, biodiversity, and soil health while integrating efficient, productivity-minded agricultural techniques. We are hiring an Assistant Manager and a Crew Member, both of whom will report to the Farm Manager.
ASSISTANT MANAGER Qualifications:
• At least 5 years of organic farming experience with expertise in two of the following skillsets and competence in the rest: Sales, Orchard Management, Vegetable Production, Maintenance (irrigation in particular), and Tractor Operation (driving, maintenance, implement use, welding for equipment modifications, and simple mechanical repair)
• Can work unsupervised
• Experience supervising others
• Familiarity and comfort with Microsoft Works (especially Word and Excel).
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. • Ability to work 40-50 hour weeks depending on the season
• Ability to perform physically demanding activities such as kneeling, lifting, shoveling, pruning, etc. for long hours
• Knows and is passionate about permaculture
• Able to multitask
• Good at record keeping
• A team player
• Positive
• English-Spanish bilingual a plus
Duties: Duties will depend on the expertise of the individual, whether it be Sales, Orchard, Veggies, or Property and Vehicle Maintenance (irrigation and tractor work). CREW MEMBER Qualifications:
• At least 2 years of organic farming experience
• Can work unsupervised efficiently
• Familiarity and comfort with Microsoft Works (especially Word and Excel)
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to work 40-50 hour weeks depending on the season
• Ability to perform physically demanding activities such as kneeling, lifting, shoveling, pruning, etc. for long hours
• Knows and is passionate about permaculture

• Experience driving a tractor a plus
• Experience with orchard work a plus
• English-Spanish bilingual a plus
Duties: • Nursery: Filling flats or containers, seeding, watering, up-potting, moving plants, managing climate in the nurseries.
• Field: Transplanting, weeding, monitoring, managing floating row covers or other season extenders or fiscal barriers for pests, application of organic pest control, setting gopher traps, harvesting, processing, and delivery.
• Orchard: Pruning, mulching, fertilizing, controlling pests, monitoring, harvesting, processing, processing and delivering.
• Landscape: Installing and maintaining landscapes.
• Irrigation: Installing irrigation systems, laying irrigation pipes for overhead, laying and picking up drip hose, using electric timers and monitoring humidity in field.
• Occasional work at a farmers market stand
• Additional work as it’s required, directly related to farming or otherwise
