Job Description
Title: Production & Marketing Advisor 
Status: Full-Time, Hourly 
Salary range: $22-26/hr 
Reports to: Program Director 
Schedule: Forty hours per week; overtime when necessary; flexible schedule according to need. 
 
The Production & Marketing Advisor’s primary responsibilities are to provide, and provide referrals for, technical assistance to farmers enrolled in ALBA’s farm-business incubator on crop production, integrated pest management, marketing, and other topics as needed. The Production & Marketing Advisor will support the farmers—individually and collectively—in their efforts to improve their farming and marketing skills. 
 
Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with ALBA’s farmers; 
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance to the ALBA Incubator farmers in production, harvesting, and packing for their different marketing outlets; 
  • Work with farmers individually and as a group as necessary to address issues regarding the quality of their produce, the quality and consistency of their pack, the timing of deliveries, the adherence to crop plans, the fulfillment of orders, and appropriate communications with their customers when issues arise; 
  • Provide education and technical assistance on integrated pest management techniques; 
  • Educate and provide technical assistance on marketing alternatives for farmers; 
  • Coordinate for outside field assistance from partner organizations and individuals; 
  • Assist Compliance Manager in ensuring food safety rules are followed and enforced; 
  • Complete grant deliverables that can include special projects, farmer workshops, and additional reporting; 
  • Assist farmers in identifying documents needed in order to market to different marketing outlets; 
  • Work in conjunction with CAFF’s Farm to Market Specialist to assist farmers with marketing strategies for their business; 
  • Create a referral system to ensure that farmers are receiving appropriate technical assistance from relevant partner agencies on production and marketing issues; 
  • Assist with crop forecasting and create an Incubator farmer availability list to post and update regularly on ALBA’s website and social media pages that can be to open up new markets for farmers; 
  • Liaise with partners, host visitors, and build partnerships in agriculture community; 
  • Attend professional development opportunities to stay up to date with laws, regulations, and emerging trends in sustainable agriculture; 
  • Participate in ALBA’s farmer and community events.
 
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture; Bilingual (English/Spanish); ability to work in a non-profit and people-centered environment with shifting priorities and deadlines; knowledge of and practical experience in organic agricultural production; ability to communicate and maintain positive relationships with a diverse constituency, including farmers, vendors, staff, and partners; ideally, possess a Pest Control Adviser (PCA) or Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) license or be willing to obtain one within two years of employment at ALBA. 
 
Working Conditions: Work will be outdoors and indoors; must be comfortable climbing ladders; Performs physical labor. May be required to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. May assist others in lifting/carrying objects heavier than 50 lbs.
