Looking for an experienced farmer who can operate a certified organic farm (CCOF) and run a CSA, while enjoying fresh fruit and vegetables from the farm. We need help at Templeton Valley Farms. The work changes seasonally, but now we have a lot of harvesting and preparing crops for market as well as soil preparation and planting. We are looking for a committed, full time, long term farm manager. We would prefer someone who wants to help continue to grow the farm and become involved long term. The Farm operates all year and there is plenty of work in the winter.
Duties include:
- Supervise planting, weeding, irrigating and harvest of specialty crops and ensure weeding, thinning, pruning and feeding crops is maintained
- Plan and implement harvest and planting schedules
- Participate in the inspection, sorting, packaging, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops.
- Set up, operate, and repair irrigation equipment
- Harvest crops by hand, plant seeds, or transplant seedlings by hand
- Maintain and record information about crops, such as fertilizer use, yields, or costs for CCOF records
- Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, and harvest crops
- Operate small tools such as; skill saw, chainsaw, weed-eater, drill, pole pruners
- Repair and maintain farm vehicles and mechanical equipment.
- Perform miscellaneous maintenance and upkeep of the Farm Stand to include building repairs, fence and other structural repairs.
- Prune fruit trees and brambles and maintain fruit orchard.
You will be fully in charge of operating the CSA for about 40 members, managing the workers, and operating the farm stand which is open to the public for retail sales and you pick berries. The farm has an egg production business and honey production as well.
