The Natural Gardening Company, a mail-order seed company and certified organic nursery, seeks an energetic and enthusiastic individual to join our team. This is a seasonal position with the opportunity to become full-time for the right candidate.
We are looking for a team player who enjoys working outdoors in the fields, in a rustic barn, and greenhouses in all types of weather and conditions. The right candidate will be willing to learn new tasks, work both independently and with a small group, and share ideas. Any potential employee will be reliable, punctual, and detail oriented. Experience is not necessary but preferred. We are willing to train the right person who is a quick learner. Pay is negotiable, depending on experience.
Reliable transportation and a love of animals and plants are necessary. (We share our barn with 2 "seed-saving" kitties and 2 dogs who lounge by the woodstove.)
Position Qualifications:
–High school diploma or GED required some college or advanced training preferred
–Understands very small business such as ours, requires someone who will gladly wear a variety of hats
–Has experience in at least one of these areas: customer service, retail, social media, gardening/farming
–Ability to comprehend written and spoken English
–Ability to stand, crouch, or kneel on uneven surfaces
–Ability to lift 50lbs
–Intermediate knowledge and ability to use the following software: Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word
–Ability to learn Mail Order Management software
Responsibilities may include:
–Packing seeds using an automated counter, scale and hand counter
–Printing seed packets
–Entering mailed-in orders using Order Fulfillment Software
–Fulfilling and shipping seed packet orders
–Packing plants in shipping boxes
–Seed starting using automated equipment
–Sanitizing and cleaning pots, trays, and greenhouses
–Transplanting
–Field preparation
–Planting starts or direct sowing seeds
–Monitoring irrigation and hand watering
–Weeding
–Entering detailed and accurate records into spreadsheets
–Harvesting produce
–Representing the business at Farmer’s Markets and trade shows
Work Schedule:
December 2, 2019 through May 29, 2020
Monday through Friday 8 AM to 4:30 PM
Interviews will be held the weeks of November 4th and 11th.
